Leanne is a choir director, composer, singer and workshop leader based in London, UK

Leanne writes music, and loves creating collaboratively. Her own work has been played on BBC Radio 3, performed at the Southwark Playhouse and IndigO2, and she has worked on creative projects with ENO Baylis, Spitalfields Music, The Space, and the East London NHS Foundation Trust. She is fascinated by the interplay between improvisation and composition, and uses Vocal Painting (VOPA) as a means of creating and developing music in the moment with vocal ensembles.

Leanne sings, and is convinced that everyone else can too. She runs inclusive singing activities across the UK, including her own community choir, Sing Tower Hamlets. She is an alto with London Contemporary Voices, with whom she has performed with Imogen Heap, Laura Mvula and Amber Run. Leanne also conducts for LCV, and has led performances at the Union Chapel and the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Leanne holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of York, and was a youth worker for many years before branching out to work in music in 2012. She trained as a Music Leader with Spitalfields Music, and graduated with a Professional Masters in Innovative Choir Leading from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus/Aalborg (Denmark) in 2019.

She’s also an artist working with words and watercolours under the name East London Lettering - check out her lettering work on Instagram!
